Impressions is one of my earliest classical compositions, dating back to halcyon days at the W.A. Conservatorium during the early 80s. My composition class was sent out to the North Mole at Fremantle to create our impressions of our surroundings. Luckily, it was a blissfully sunny and peaceful day (not winter, obviously, or the music would be quite different!). Originally written for piano, I decided a few years later to add some instruments. It's a very simple piece, but still, I think quite beautiful.
